In May we partnered with various organisations to host our annual careers and progression week. Employers such as The London Fire Brigade, NCS, ‘Original Flava’, the BBC, Tottenham Hotspur, Urban Development and Escape Studios came in to speak to our students about what their organisations do and what they have to offer for budding young creatives.
Higher educational providers such as University of East London, Bath Spa University, Fashion Retail Academy, Solent University and University of Westminster also visited our college to assist our learners with their applications and provide advice on UCAS points.
The aim of our careers week is to give our learners the opportunity to receive impartial advice from a spectrum of employers and educational providers, about the opportunities available to them when they leave BCE. They will also receive help and guidance on progressing to the next stage of their course if continuing at BCE. This includes what grades they need to pass their current course and how to become eligible for a higher level.
Also incorporated into careers week included workshops aimed to assist our learners with creating or building their CV and designing their own portfolios. Tottenham Hotspur held mock interviews that gave our learners an insight into what type of questions to expect during an interview and how to stand out from others.
Many of our students expressed that they really enjoyed the week, with one mentioning that they ‘really needed this, it made me start thinking about what I’m going to do once I leave BCE’. Our visitors also mentioned how pleased they were to meet our students.
Overall, the week was really energetic and encouraging for our learners. They gained valuable advice and are now ready and equipped for their next steps.
