Games Design students pitch ideas to Industry Panel.

The ICT & Digital team at Waltham Forest Council teamed up alongside Big Creative Education earlier this year to launch a one-off module for our Games Design students. Learners were given the opportunity to plan and produce work to a commercial brief in collaboration with the creative sector.

Learners worked in small teams to develop their own ideas in an attempt to increase the amount of visitors to the local wetlands area. This included topics such as augmented reality, gaining gaming credits and mutant fish.

After many hours of planning the students then had to prepare for the finale, pitching their group ideas to a panel of some very impressive industry professionals including:

Paul Neville – Director of ICT & Digital Marketing, Ralph Hanus – Retail and Visitor, Experience Manager for Waltham Wetlands, The Mayor of Waltham Forest, Cllr Sally Little John and representatives from Google, Microsoft and NG Data.

Congratulations to the winning entry “Team Red Fox”, who blew the panel away with their time travelling style game. Based in the Wetlands area between The Blitz in World War II and today, their concept idea included mini games and puzzles.

Well done to all our dedicated learners who took part, keep up the hard work!
