Stratford Circus is a National Portfolio Organisation of Arts Council England and established as a charity, Stratford Arts Trust in January 2012. The centre offers a regular portfolio of education and training opportunities whilst supporting the ambitions of local and international artists through a variety of live platforms.

Role Description At Stratford Circus Arts Centre, we’re about to embark on an exciting new project, bringing high-quality arts events and activities to older adults living in Newham. Stratford Arts Social will offer participants the opportunity to attend monthly arts activities facilitated by specialist artists, as well as weekly meet-ups. Participants will take part in a range of creative activities designed to nurture creativity, facilitate conversations and support wellbeing. Stratford Arts Social will be a wonderful way for older members (65+) of the Newham community to meet people, have fun and be creative! The project kicks off in September 2018 and we are looking for an apprentice to support the delivery of the programme and associated events.

Tasks will include:

  1. Supporting the Creative Learning Team with all administration relating to the project, e.g. collating registers and registration forms, preparing contracts, financial administration including tracking expenditure, raising purchase orders and invoices, writing letters/emails, preparing documents e.g. programmes for events.
  2. Liaising with artists and teachers to schedule activities.
  3. Being the main point of contact and support at Stratford Circus for project participants. Working closely with participants to ensure that they are supported and being on hand for any issues that arise.
  4. Assisting during Creative Learning events as required, ensuring they run smoothly.
  5. Organising logistics for events including ordering catering, arranging room set-up, drawing up schedules etc.
  6. Assisting with gathering and collation of evaluation material including feedback forms, arranging interviews and focus groups with participants, and feeding into funding reports as required.
  7. Leading on marketing of events associated with Stratford Arts Social and general publicity of the project, including participant recruitment e.g. managing the Stratford Arts Social Twitter page, developing social media campaigns, providing website copy and leading on the management of design and print of marketing materials as required.
  8. Liaising with film-makers and photographers as required to ensure the project and associated events are documented.
  9. Assisting the Creative Learning Team with other administrative and project management tasks as required.
  10. Undertaking any other duties as reasonably required to ensure the success of Stratford Arts Social and the smooth-running of the Creative Learning department.

Skills & Requirements

  1. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  2. Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
  3. A positive attitude to work, motivated and proactive.
  4. An interest in working with older adults, and an understanding of the skills and qualities required.
  5. An understanding of the challenges facing older adults.
  6. Ability to follow instructions and work to deadlines, but also to take own initiative as needed.
  7. Some experience of social media campaigns and a basic understanding of marketing principles.
  8. Polite and confident manner and an ability to deal with a wide range of people.
  9. Excellent team working skills.
  10. IT skills and a good working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word.
  11. Some prior experience of working on live events. This role would require an enhanced DBS check and is suitable for candidates aged 18+.

Desirable

  1. Someone with an arts background, or who has a demonstrable passion for the arts.
  2. Some design skills e.g. using InDesign.
