Today’s creative companies now have whole social media and digital marketing teams to gain website traffic and increase the company’s online presence on social media sites. The BCT Digital Marketing apprenticeship trains you to become a specialist in all digital marketing techniques, as well as helping you to gain the knowledge and skills to understand the impact and power of social media.

There’s not a business left in the world that can’t benefit from a digital marketing campaign, and as a young person fluent in all things social media; you will be writing blog posts, sharing, liking and following, tweeting, editing images, managing email campaigns, analysing data, and anything else that falls into the realms of social media & digital marketing.

This is a fast-paced and endlessly creative role that will see you take centre stage in the workplace and get you started in your career in Social Media & Digital Marketing. You will be sharing news, making contacts and contributing to the success of the company. An apprenticeship is a genuine job with an accompanying skills development programme. Through your apprenticeship you will gain the technical knowledge, practical experience and wider skills you need for an immediate job in the industry and also help you to develop your future career. You will gain this through a broad mix of learning in the workplace, formal off-the-job training delivered by BCT and the opportunity to practise new skills in a real work environment

Apprenticeships are assessed through a new framework known as an Apprenticeship Standard. These are new for 2017 having been designed and endorsed by employers in each industry giving you as an apprentice, and your employer, confidence that you will develop the skills you need to be successful in your chosen career and make real contribution to their company.

The Digital Marketer standard* is delivered throughout your apprenticeship in partnership with your employer and consists of 2 assessment periods:

• On-programme Assessment
• End Point Assessment

On-programme assessment makes up the first 12 months of the programme and requires the apprentice to achieve all elements of the standard through a mix of on-the-job training in the workplace and off-the-job learning. This consists of two key elements:
• Build a portfolio of evidence that is made up of examples of real workplace tasks that demonstrate technical competencies, skills, attitudes and behaviours of the standard
• Achieve a mix of Ofqual-regulated knowledge modules and a professional qualification to demonstrate your technical knowledge and understanding of the standard

*You must achieve Maths & English Grade C or above as a condition of entry onto a BCT apprenticeship

Off the job training will consist of a mix of online learning, tutorial sessions and master classes at the college, alongside monthly assessment sessions in the workplace with tailored support for each apprentice preparing them for end point assessment.

While spending time away from the employer apprentices are taught a wide range of up to date industry specific skills and practices by our team of industry experts creating industry standard products.

Off the job training is an invaluable part of our apprenticeships and has been shown to improve the overall success of our programmes for both the apprentice and the employer

After a minimum of 12 months on the apprenticeship, alongside gathering their summative portfolio of evidence covering the standard and achieving the knowledge modules and professional qualification, an apprentice will then be eligible for end point assessment.

This will take place through an independent assessment provider and will consist of 4 key areas:

• Assessment of the summative portfolio
• Employer Reference

The apprentice submits their portfolio of evidence covering the complete standard, along with a reference from their employer explaining how they have performed and applied their knowledge and skills in the workplace.

• Synoptic Project
• Interview

The apprentice will then also complete a pre-defined project in a controlled environment based around a selected set of knowledge, skills and behaviours from the standard. Finally there will be an interview, which will be a structured discussion between the apprentice and an independent assessor, focusing on the summative portfolio and the synoptic project.


An apprenticeship is a combination of training and employment that allows apprentices to earn a wage while also gaining invaluable knowledge and understanding of your specific creative sector through off the job training delivered by industry expert Tutors and Assessors at BCE. If you choose to join a Big Creative Apprenticeship, you will be hired as an apprentice for a minimum of 12 months working in an exciting creative company alongside completing a mixture of industry specific knowledge modules, nationally recognised and professional qualifications.


An apprentice is employed and paid directly by their employer either full-time (5 days per week), or part-time basis (4 days per week). All apprentices must participate in ‘off-the-job’ training which will consist of a mix of; remote online learning, assessment visits in your workplace, individual/group tutorials and monthly sector specific masterclasses with industry professional at the BCE campus as a part of their paid working week.

As an apprentice you will also gain valuable work experience, contacts and industry knowledge. An apprentice must be paid a minimum of £109.20 per week full-time. However many employers pay above this rate to compensate for the high living expenses in London.
