Why study Media?

This course is designed for young people with a passion for everything that is media. In a fast changing industry where the UK is a world leader in Digital media and media production this course will provide you with the skills and knowledge to compete with the best. Aimed at young people interested in different Media platforms, Marketing, Photography, Journalism, Film and Advertising industries, this course will teach you how to use the same programmes as the professionals to create and produce your own productions. You will get to grips with key terminology and learn important creative practical and technical skills from our industry professional tutors.

Working as part of team and on your own, you will learn how to ‘think like a creative’ and be taught the best ways to turn those ideas into reality in the interactive media world of mobile phone apps, music videos, television I-dents & stop motion animation.  You will leave the BCA with a professional, digitalised portfolio of your coursework. Your tutors will help you craft this essential tool to help you move to the next stage of your creative career or learning.

  • Course Information

  • Level 2
    Digital media plays an essential role in music, marketing and media. This course is for young people who are interested in becoming part of the media industry. You will gain the necessary practical knowledge that video makers, digital brand builders and journalist need in their working lives. Working with industry professionals, you will learn to shoot and edit high quality videos, create podcasts and dynamic media platforms to promote brands, engage clients and showcase events.

    Course entry requirements:

    3 GCSEs at grade D or above (including English) or equivalent

    Applicants who do not have a D in GCSE English must have Functional Skills English at Level 1.

    Course duration and start date:

    The course will begin in September 2017 and lasts for one year
    What qualification(s) will I receive?

    • OCR Level 2 Cambridge Technical Diploma in Media

    Learners with a grade D in GCSE English and/or Maths will complete a GCSE re-sit alongside their course.

    Learners with a grade E or below in English and/or Maths will work towards achieving their Functional Skill qualification alongside their course.

    Progression Opportunities

    We would actively encourage you to progress onto one of our Level 3 programmes at Big Creative Academy. This will allow you to further develop your creative skills and continue to focus on your English and/or Maths.

    Alternatively, if you have five GCSEs at grade C or above (including English and Maths) then you can progress onto one of our BCE Apprenticeship programmes.

    You also have the option to progress into employment.
  • Level 3

    5 GCSEs at grade C or above (including English) or equivalent

    Course duration and start date:

    The course will begin in September 2017 and lasts for two years.
    What qualification(s) will I receive?

    • BTEC Level 3 90-Credit Diploma in Creative Media Production (1 year)
    • BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Creative Media Production (2 years)

    Learners who already have GCSE English and Maths at grade C or above will also work towards the Bronze Arts Award (Enterprise Qualification).

    Learners with a grade D in GCSE English and/or Maths will complete a GCSE re-sit alongside their course.

    Learners with a grade E or below in Maths will work towards achieving their Functional Skill qualification alongside their course.

    Progression Opportunities

    If you are keen to move into employment but wish to continue training in the creative industries and have five GCSEs at grade C or above (including English and Maths), then you can progress onto one of our BCE Apprenticeship programmes

    Those of you who wish to continue your learning in an education environment, have the option to progress into Higher Education either at a University or studying for a HNC/HND programme.

    If you are not keen on continuing to study further, you can progress directly into employment.
  • Will I receive support throughout my course?
    At Big Creative Education, we pride ourselves on offering support to all of our young people throughout their programme.

    We have a number of learners who have a range of support needs from specific learning difficulties, or autistic spectrum disorders to mental health conditions, amongst others. If you currently have a valid Education and Health Care Plan or a Learning Difficulty Assessment (LDA), you will be entitled to government funded support from your local authority to ensure we help you achieve the best from your learning.

  • How will I be taught and assessed?
    All of our courses are vocational which means they are designed to compliment learners with a visual and kinaesthetic learning style.

    As a result, you will be assessed via a range of both practical and written assignments.
  • What happens after I submit an Application?
    Once you have submitted your application online, you will be contacted via post and email with an interview appointment. Our interview evenings happen on a monthly basis so you will never wait more than 30 days for an appointment.

    Your interview is an opportunity for you to showcase and discuss your creative skill set with our industry professional tutors. We actively encourage applicants to attend their interviews with either a portfolio of work (if you have it) or an audition piece (if you’re applying for Music Performance or Performing Arts).

    At the end of your interview you will receive a conditional offer for September subject to achieving the entry criteria. This will also be confirmed in writing so you have something to keep as a reminder.

Age Requirements
All BCE courses are for learners aged 16-18 as of 31 August 2017.

However, if you have a learning difficulty and/or disability with a valid Education and Healthcare Plan, you can study with us up to the age of 25.
